The snowsports season kicks off with the first round of the Northern League of the Kings races. The Kings races, taking place on both the dryslope in Rossendale and our very own home turf in Sunderland, consists of four rounds throughout the year, with teams from all of the northern universities battling their way through a series of dual slaloms in each round to qualify for the finals in May.

The next important event is the annual pilgrimage made by the Dussclings up to Edinburgh to compete in BUDS; the British University Dryslope Championships and the first BUCS race of the season. This competition takes place over two days on the largest dryslope in the UK and racers can compete in slalom, giant slalom and the dual slalom race cheered on by hordes of DUSSC’s finest social members.

Our racers also have the opportunity to flex their racing ability on snow when we compete in the dome series where the wonderful Castleford indoor snowdome hosts slalom and duals races. Finally, we hope to send a team to the esteemed main event, this year hosted in Andorra, where our DUSSC racers can storm the pistes and take part in a multitude of races on snow including Slalom, GS and even a Super G.

The weekly training sessions on the dryslope in Sunderland give both the seasoned racer and the less experienced an opportunity to improve and a chance to practice on the often unfamiliar sensation of racing on plastic.
